Science- Light and Shadow Clay Dancers
Today students took their molded clay dancers and sketched their shadows in three different positions: facing towards the light, facing away from the light and facing sideways. Students sketched each shadow and compared the sizes and discussed reasons for the different shapes.
Here are a few thoughts...
Qutlugh: If the dancer's body is facing sideways, the shadow would be thinner because the light would point at it which would reflect the thin part and make the shadow long.
Zeinab: If the dancer's body is facing towards the light, the shadow would be flat and long because it's kind of far away from the sun and standing straight so that the sun hits the front of the body.
Linkin: If the dancer's body is facing away from the light, the shadow would be longer because the head of our dancer is facing towards the floor so when the light went on the head of the dancer, it was flat so it went down and it stretched and made it longer than the others.
Kyla: It does not matter if your dancer is tall or short. It matters if it is close or far to the light. If the dancer is close to the light, the shadow would be bigger and if the dancer is far away from the light, the shadow will be smaller.
