Letter to Parents

Dear Keeler Families,  As we continue with this new style of teaching and learning, we wanted to take some time to talk about assessment as it pertains to distance learning. Please know that we are very proud of the levels of support families are giving to their children as they navigate teaching and learning online. We know you are deeply invested in your child’s learning and we are so fortunate to have your support!  Assessment and Distance Learning   As we work within this new reality, assessment from March 15 to the end of the year will primarily be formative assessment. To help maintain equity in learning at home, student marks will not go down after March 15, but they do have the opportunity to increase. As a result, all assessments will be used to improve student learning.  When we are assessing formatively, we are looking to find out what a student can do independently so that we can plan for their next steps. Letter from Principal

April 9th, 2020 Dear Keeler Families, By now, you have received news that we will be using Google Classroom as our virtual learning space for students.  Some of you have already joined the classroom and explored.  Initial learning opportunities will be posted on Monday April 13th by 10am for your children to begin getting used to working this way. We encourage your child to check into their google email accounts each day. Allow them to log into their accounts and explore the classroom so that they establish as much independence as possible.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MEG5SPVXZU&feature=youtu.be Encourage your child to send their teachers emails if they don’t understand a concept or need clarification.  We want the tasks children do to be as independent as possible, and where you do need to support, we will make every effort for it to be as easy as possible. Regular communication is vital during the weeks ahead for your child to be successful, so don’t hesitate to ask q

It is our goal to establish a strong partnership in communication as we strive to move student learning forward during this challenging time.  Please review the following education plans for Keeler School:   We will be using Google Classroom as our learning platform consistently across the school.  From here, you may be linked to your teacher’s regular blog or alternate communication methods that has been taking place throughout the year. You will receive more information about the platform and the roll out over the next week. Students are expected to work for one hour per day (five hours per week) in the areas of  literacy and numeracy (K-3)  and one hour per day (five hours per week) in  literacy and numeracy with Science and Social Studies integrated (4-5) . We understand that every family situation is different and learning times for each family will vary. We suggest tha

Letter From the Principal

April 5th, 2020  Dear Keeler Families, We hope you had a wonderful spring break and used this time of social distancing to reconnect with your family at home. No doubt you and your children are looking forward to our next steps of learning! By now you have received a CBE Communication letting you know of our plans to move learning to an online format. As you can imagine, this is a new way of working and we ask that you be patient as teachers work on a steep learning curve over the next few weeks. Tomorrow, we will call/email you with our initial plans for online learning and how we will support families where that is not possible. In the meanwhile, please continue to access the CBE resources previously shared: https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/k-6.aspx I also want to remind parents of the guidelines set out by Alberta Education: https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=69874B5C32DE7-C7B9-FAFF518A0FF91DCFD41D • Kindergarten – Grade 3 o Education content
