“Dear Parents, Just a reminder that there is a   FULL   day of school tomorrow (Thursday) December 19th and   NO   school Friday December 20th. Winter Break will start   December 20, 2019   and classes will resume on   January 9, 2020 . We hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Break! Also, please make sure to send in all Vision forms, that went home last week, by tomorrow December 19th. It is a free service being offered to the school and we would love to have as many kids take part as possible.”

Science-Motion

Grade 4 students have started their next unit in Science...motion! Students were challenged to create a moving car using materials they could find in the classroom and sketch their blueprints in visual journals.  What is motion? What causes motion? What is force?

Winter Celebration

“Hello families,   Tickets for the Winter Celebration were handed to students today. Our performance with Quest Theater has changed the set up of our gym for this year’s performance, and we were left with fewer tickets to give out than in past years. We have given out all available tickets and are at   full capacity   for the Thursday night performance. Just a reminder that the performance starts at 6:30 PM on Thursday, December 12, and doors will open at 6:00 PM. Anyone attending the evening performance   must have a ticket   to attend. If you were unable to get tickets for the evening performance, you are welcome to come to the afternoon performance, which will start at 1:30. We have room for approximately 90 spectators for the afternoon show. If you are hoping to attend the afternoon show, please just let your child’s teacher now so we can have a general idea of how many people to expect. UNCRC- Wants VS Needs

Health- UNCRC  (The  United  Nations  Convention  on  the  Rights  of  the  Child) Activity  3 Students reflected on their lives at home and at school. They wrote down a list of their ‘wants’ and ‘needs’. They were asked to put them in order of importance. They were then asked to eliminate three things, then another three…what do we ‘really’ need?  What is the difference between ‘wants’ and ‘needs’? Are wants and needs different for different people? Why don’t all children in the world have what they need? 

Winter Celebration

Ticket forms for our Winter Celebration went home today. Our Celebration is December 12, 2019. The evening performance will be at 6:30, and doors will open at 6:00.   You must have a ticket to attend the evening performance.   If you cannot attend the evening performance, you do not need a ticket to attend the afternoon dress rehearsal which starts at 1:30. Please sign and fill out the form   even if you are not attending either performance. Forms are due December 9, 2019. Tickets will come home December 11. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher, or Mrs. Baniak.

Children's Rights- Rights, Wants or Needs?

Children's Rights- Activity 2 Rights, Wants or Needs? Today we explored a few articles of the UNCRC. We split into two groups and placed 20 cards into three categories-most important, important and least important. Some of these cards included nutritious food, heath care, clean water, fast food, a television set and clothes in the latest style.  As we compared each group's placement of cards, we discussed the following questions: -How did you decide which items were most important?  -Was it difficult to select some items over others?  -Which were the most important? Why? -Which were the least important? Why?

United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child

As part of the Grade 4 Health Curriculum, students are exploring the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Today we explored the term 'rights of the child' and discussed the importance of the agreement.
