Music- Four Families of Instruments in an Orchestra

As we approach our field trip to watch the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra perform 'The Hockey Sweater', students have been exploring the four families of instruments in an orchestra.    To further solidify their understanding of instruments and notes (ta, ti-ti, rest), students were engaged in various games including Music Bingo.

We read the book “The Giving Tree” by Leah Dorion. We learned about Métis culture and even listened to the book in Michif! We then started creating paintings inspired by the book!

Mousetrap Cars

Using the engineering process to build a mousetrap. We are currently making three sketches of our mousetrap cars! Once we are finished the sketches, we will choose the best one and begin building.

Literacy- letter writing

Students had the opportunity to write letters to the firefighters, volunteers and those affected by the bushfires in Australia.  The following format was used to write a friendly letter: 1. Heading (date) 2. Greeting (Dear...) 3. Body (Introduction, facts, questions) 4. Closing (Sincerely/From/Love) 5. Signature (name)

Science- mouse trap cars

Mouse Trap Students explored, sketched and labelled parts of a mouse trap today. We had a discussion about the working parts and how it would work as the 'force' for the mouse trap cars which will be constructed next week. 

Literacy- exploring idioms

Students have been exploring idioms; a  phrase or an expression that has a figurative, or sometimes literal, meaning. Categorized as formulaic language, an idiom's figurative meaning is different from the literal meaning. There are thousands of idioms, occurring frequently in all languages.
